Coloring lips has an undeniable brightening effect even if you wear no other cosmetics. It is also the perfect finishing touch to any make-up routine.

Start with lipliner to help prevent lipstick from smudging or feathering. Choose a shade that complements your lipstick and outline your lips carefully. You may use your outline to slightly alter your natural lip shape, if desired. It’s easiest to start lining in the center and move out to the sides. Some cosmetologists also cover the entire lip in lipliner as a base for lipstick.

Select a lipstick in a color that complements your chosen make-up palette. Cover lips and blend into liner for a natural look. Creamy, moisturizing lipsticks provide relief for dry lips. Or seek extra moisture from lip-conditioning treatments — or a top coat of balm or gloss.
