New Web Site Arms Cancer Patients with Coping Techniques

Women coping with cancer now have a new online resource for information — www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org. The site is based on the successful Look Good...Feel Better (LGFB) program, a national cancer support program dedicated to providing female cancer patients with hair and skin care techniques to cope with the appearance related side effects of cancer and its treatment.

Recognizing the ever-increasing role the Internet plays in providing consumers with helpful information, www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org provides a wealth of information on issues related to cancer and its side effects. The site houses a diverse collection of resources, program materials and self-help tutorials designed to be informative, upbeat and provide each visitor with a sampling of what the LGFB group program offers.

“Helpful information — directed not only to women with cancer, but also their family and friends — can be found on the new Look Good...Feel Better Web site,” says Carolyn Deaver, Vice President of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation.

Among the new Web site features:

  • Information on locating LGFB programs in your local area
  • Step-by-step skin care and make-up routines designed for female cancer patients
  • Tutorials on hair loss, hair care, wig styling and wig care
  • EGrams to send to friends, family or colleagues
  • Before and after photos and comments from LGFB program participants
  • Information on how to become a LGFB volunteer and information for healthcare providers
  • Links to our international sister programs and other helpful organizations

“The Look Good...Feel Better Web site provides users with the tools they need to make themselves — or their loved ones - feel good about the way they look, renew their sense of self, and approach their disease and treatment with greater confidence — all from the privacy of their home or office,” says Deaver. “Women can find a local program, send an eGram to a colleague, or find tips on how to even out their skin-tone. Lookgoodfeelbetter.org has something for everyone.”

Since its inception in 1989, Look Good...Feel Better has enhanced the lives of more than 370,000 cancer patients. Group sessions are offered nationwide through a partnership with the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the National Cosmetology Association.

This free program is also available in Spanish, Luzca Bien…Siéntase Mejor®, and a teen program, Look Good…Feel Better for Teens®, is available to teens with cancer through in-hospital programs in 16 locations. Teens undergoing cancer treatment, their friends and family can also find information on the interactive teen Web site, www.2bMe.org.
