In 2007, an estimated 678,000 women will be diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Most of these women will undergo lifesaving chemotherapy, radiation, or targeted biological therapies, many of which cause significant appearance side effects ranging from changes in skin pigmentation, to extreme dry skin or complete hair loss. Fortunately, help to address these disturbing and disruptive appearance problems is available through Look Good. . .Feel Better – a free, nationwide program helping 50,000 women with cancer each year to cope with the visual side effects of their cancer treatments and restore their appearance and self-confidence.
As part of the second annual Look Good. . .Feel Better Week April 22-28, 2007, the powerful, unique and very personal stories of women finding their way through this experience will come to life in a new program – the Ambassador’s Corner. A supporting Blog, Pia’s Look Good. . .Feel Better Chronicles, will portray the story of 31-year old, two-time cancer survivor and Look Good. . . Feel Better Ambassador Pia Awal, and her experiences as a Look Good. . .Feel Better program correspondent.
This month during Look Good. . .Feel Better Week, Pia will set forth on a year-long project to talk to other cancer survivors and capture their stories, posting her accounts and occasional video or audio clips of her interviews on Pia’s Look Good. . .Feel Better Chronicles, and encouraging other Look Good. . .Feel Better graduates to do the same.
Pia’s Look Good. . .Feel Better Chronicles will launch on April 23, 2007. Please click here to read Pia’s Look Good. . .Feel Better Chronicles (Blog). Take note of how vital this program is – from the perspective of the women served – in offering practical tools and caring support, and why it is important to share information about Look Good. . .Feel Better so that other women undergoing cancer treatment have an opportunity to benefit.
We hope that you will consider sharing Pia’s story and Blog in a future issue of your magazine. To schedule an interview with Pia, please contact Lisa Burris, Director, CTFA Foundation at 202-454-0348.
